5 Best Matcha Spots in Lagos That Actually Taste Good

The Matcha talk is here again.

Some people are walking around saying matcha tastes like photosynthesis. Others are calling it “agbo with an upgrade”, but now it comes in a pretty glass with foam on top and costs ₦9,000. A few brave souls are even posting their green cups like they just discovered the eighth wonder of the world.

We decided to find out the truth for ourselves. We visited the spots everyone is talking about, tasted the drinks, soaked in the vibes, and now we’re telling you exactly where the matcha actually slaps and where it’s just… green.

Whether you’re team “I only drink coffee”, team “I’ll try anything once”, or team “let me just take pictures first”, this guide is for you. No long talk. Let’s go.

Matcha 101

Matcha is basically green tea that went to the gym. Instead of soaking the leaves, they grind everything into fine powder, and you whisk it. You drink the whole leaf, so you get more energy and antioxidants.

In simple terms? It’s like a calm, steady energy that doesn’t throw you under the bus at 3 pm like some coffee does. The drinks look beautiful, they photograph well, and when they’re made properly, they don’t taste like you’re chewing leaves in the middle of traffic. Some spots add mango, strawberry, caramel, vanilla, or even white chocolate. Others keep it simple and clean.

The trend is everywhere right now because people love things that look good and give a small amount of enjoyment. But as we always say, fine aesthetics no mean say the thing go sweet.

1. Panu Lagos

Address: 9 Otunba Adedoyin Ogungbe Crescent, Lekki Phase 1
Instagram: @panu.lagos
Hours: Roughly 8 am – 10 pm (longer on weekends)

This place is giving New York deli meets Lagos chill. The space is bright, clean, and has that “I can work here or just sit and vibe” energy. They serve proper food too, but we came for the matcha.

The matcha here is smooth and not trying too hard. The Vanilla Cream Matcha and Mango Cream Matcha are the ones people keep ordering. Even the people who said “matcha is just expensive grass water” finished their cups and side-eyed the menu for round two.

Plazzaa verdict: If you want matcha that doesn’t taste like punishment, start here. It’s creamy, well-balanced, and the vibe is calm but still Lagos. Perfect for first-timers or people who want to look like they have their life together.

Price range for matcha: Around ₦9,000. Best for: Content, dates, or soft work sessions.

2. Milk & Honey Lagos

Addresses:

47 Admiralty Road, Lekki Phase 1
1 Macpherson Avenue, Ikoyi
Instagram: @milkandhoneylagos

This one has been doing its thing for a while. It’s a proper bakery-cafe, so the pastries are actually good (not just for show). Their matcha is consistent and comforting.

Some people say it tastes like “agbo that went abroad and came back with better packaging.” The vanilla version especially is smooth and not too bitter. You can pair it with their meat pie or croissant and suddenly the day feels manageable.

Plazzaa verdict: Reliable. Not trying to be the loudest or prettiest, but it delivers every time. Great if you want good matcha without drama or if you’re in Ikoyi and don’t feel like crossing to Lekki.

Best for: Brunch, quick catch-ups, or when you need something sweet and steady.

3. MaMatcha Cafe

Address: 30 Fola Osibo Road, Lekki Phase 1
Instagram: @mamatcha.cafe
Hours: Mon–Sat 7 am–8 pm, Sun 10 am–5 pm

This is the one people call the “aesthetic queen.” The space is beautiful, well thought out, and feels fresh. It’s the kind of place where you take one picture and suddenly your whole feed looks expensive.

But here’s the important part: the matcha is actually creamy and well-made. Their Mama’s Milk Matcha (white chocolate version) has been getting serious love. It tastes rich without being too sweet. Even the “I don’t like green things” crowd might finish the cup and ask for another.

Plazzaa verdict: It earns the hype. Pretty on the outside, properly made on the inside. Go when you want the full experience, nice space, good drink, and photos that will make your friends ask where you are.

Best for: Content days, dates, girls’ hangouts, or when you want to feel like the main character for two hours.

4. Cafe Verde

Address: Block 111, Plot 1A, Adebisi Ogunniyi Crescent, Lekki Phase 1
Instagram: @cafeverdeng

This spot is cute, has both indoor and outdoor seating, and serves matcha in different flavors at prices that don’t make you cry. Around ₦7,000 for most iced matcha lattes.

Flavours include strawberry, mango, caramel, and even blueberry. Some people come here specifically because they want to try different things without committing to one taste. The space is relaxed and welcoming, the kind of place where you can sit for a while without feeling rushed.

Plazzaa verdict: Good middle ground. Not the fanciest, not the most expensive, but it gets the job done and gives you variety. Perfect for when you want to experiment or you’re on a “soft budget but still want to enjoy life” mission.

Best for: Groups, students, or anyone who likes options.

5. Haske Cafe

Address: 32A Victoria Arobieke street, Lekki
Instagram: @haskecafe

If you want a place that focuses mainly on matcha and coffee with a calm lounge vibe, Haske is worth checking. It’s smaller and more low-key. Some people rate their vanilla matcha highly, others say there are better ones in the city. Either way, it’s a solid option when you want something straightforward.

Bonus Location: Sleek’s Matcha

9am – 7pm / Tues- Sat
📍7A Sapara Williams Close, VI
HAndle: Sleek’s Matcha

Lagos Matcha Survival Guide

  • Go early or on weekdays if you hate traffic. Lekki Phase 1 after 4pm can turn into “park and chill” whether you like it or not.
  • Ask for oat milk or almond milk if regular milk feels too heavy. Most of these spots have alternatives.
  • Share drinks with your friend so you can taste two or three flavours without spending a lot.
  • Don’t expect it to taste like Fanta. Matcha has its own personality. Some people love it immediately, some need two or more tries. That’s normal.
  • Take pictures first, then drink. We are still in Lagos, and content is part of the experience.

Our Take

Matcha in Lagos is not going anywhere. Some versions taste like someone blended garden leaves and charged you for the experience. Others actually taste good, look beautiful, and give you that steady energy without the crash.

The spots we listed above are the ones doing it properly right now. Panu for smooth and balanced, Milk & Honey for reliable sweetness, MaMatcha for beauty + taste, Cafe Verde for options and value, and Haske if you want a dedicated matcha spot.
