INTERNATIONAL BOOK CLUBS (Part 2): Diverse Communities Reading Together Worldwide

In Part 1, we explored popular international book clubs that connect readers across the globe. In Part 2, we focus on book clubs built around community, culture, diversity, and shared experiences.

These clubs prove that reading is not just personal—it can also be powerful, social, and deeply meaningful.

Silent Book Club began in 2012 in San Francisco when two friends, Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich, decided to read together at a local wine bar. What started as a simple idea has now grown into a worldwide community of book lovers who enjoy reading in peace and connecting with others.

At Silent Book Club, there’s no assigned book or required reading — you can bring anything you like, from novels to audiobooks, comics, or even textbooks. Everyone meets at a set time and place, usually in cafés or local spots, to enjoy quiet reading time together. After about an hour, members can chat about their books or simply relax.

The best part is that anyone can join or start a chapter in their city. Silent Book Club welcomes everyone who loves to read, creating a calm and friendly space where people can enjoy books and community at the same time.
