Today, we’ll share 7 exciting activities you must try when you visit Lagos. These experiences will help you enjoy the city like a true local — and make your trip unforgettable. Let’s dive in!

1. Discover Art and Culture at Nike Art Gallery

Art Gallery

Step into the colourful world of Nigerian art at the Nike Art Gallery—one of the largest art galleries in West Africa, owned by Nike Davies-Okundaye. This beautiful five-story building is filled with thousands of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, beads, textiles, and traditional crafts. It is located at 2 Nike Art Gallery Road, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos; with additional locations in Abuja, Oshogbo and Ogidi-Ijumu in Kogi State.

Every corner of the gallery is bursting with creativity. You can explore different styles of Nigerian art, take amazing photos, and even meet some of the artists. If you’re lucky, you might catch a live art demo or cultural performance.

There’s also a gift shop where you can buy handmade souvenirs to remember your visit. Whether you’re an art lover or just curious, Nike Art Gallery is a must-see spot that will leave you inspired and amazed.

2. Enjoy the Nightlife at Victoria Island

When the sun goes down, Lagos comes alive—especially in Victoria Island, the city’s nightlife hotspot. From rooftop lounges to buzzing clubs, cosy bars to live music spots, there’s always somewhere fun to go.

You can sip cocktails while overlooking the city lights, dance to Afrobeats and hip-hop at popular clubs, or enjoy live band performances that blend Afro-jazz, highlife, and contemporary sounds. Some places even offer karaoke nights or comedy shows for extra entertainment.

The crowd is stylish, the vibe is electric, and the memories? Always unforgettable. Some popular spots include Club Quilox, Club Pravada, Rhapsody’s, and The Grill by Delis.

3. Taste Local Delicacies at a Bukka

No trip to Lagos is complete without trying the city’s delicious local food—and one of the best places to do that is at a bukka (a simple, roadside eatery). These spots may not look fancy, but they serve some of the tastiest and most authentic Nigerian meals you’ll ever try. You can try out some on my list.

Amala Shitta (Iya Oyo)- This is one of Lagos’ most popular amala spots, run by the legendary Iya Oyo.
The amala (yam flour swallow) is smooth, stretchy, and perfectly cooked, served with smoky ewedu (jute leaf soup), rich gbegiri (bean soup), and an overload of assorted meats—ponmo, cow leg, shaki, and more. It’s a well-known Amala spot in Surulere, specifically in the Shitta area.

Amala Yahoo- This popular buka in Ojota is famous for its rich, soft amala, usually served hot with steaming bowls of ewedu, gbegiri, and spicy obe ata (pepper sauce).

It’s a simple spot with plastic chairs and long tables, always buzzing with people — from bus drivers to businessmen — all coming for one reason: the food slaps. The meat portions are generous, the soup is thick and flavorful, and the service is fast, even when the line is long.

From art galleries to beach adventures, street food to buzzing markets, music history to scenic boat rides, and fun-filled resorts, there’s something for every kind of traveller visiting Lagos.

4. Take a Boat Ride to Ilashe Beach

If you’re in the mood for something private and luxurious, then a boat trip to Ilashe Beach is just what you need. This exclusive beach is only reachable by boat, giving you that “hidden paradise” feeling right in Lagos. Located on Ilashe Island, part of Snake Island, off the Lagos coast along Badagry Creek.

Ilashe is known for its calm waters, clean sandy shores, and private beach houses. Many people rent a beach house with friends for the day to enjoy swimming, dancing, BBQs, and lots of fun in the sun. It’s perfect for a weekend getaway, birthday celebration, or romantic outing.

The boat ride itself is part of the adventure—speeding across the Lagos lagoon, wind in your hair, and views of the city from the water.

5.  Explore Computer Village in Ikeja

Tech lovers, this one’s for you. Computer Village in Ikeja is the biggest technology market in Nigeria — maybe even in West Africa. It’s a lively hub packed with shops and street vendors selling phones, laptops, accessories, gadgets, and offering repairs for all kinds of electronics.

Even if you’re not shopping, just walking through the market is an experience. You’ll hear vendors calling out the latest phone models, see tech repairs happening on the spot, and feel the pulse of Lagos innovation.

6. Drive Across the Third Mainland Bridge

One of the most iconic structures in Lagos, the Third Mainland Bridge offers a unique way to experience the city — especially at sunrise or sunset. Spanning nearly 12 kilometers, it’s the longest of the three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the Mainland.

As you drive across, you’ll see Lagos from a different perspective: the bustling waters of the Lagos Lagoon below, the city skyline in the distance, and fishermen paddling wooden canoes close to the edges. At night, the lights of the city sparkle along the water, giving you a picture-perfect view of Lagos in motion.

Whether you’re a passenger or behind the wheel, it’s a scenic route worth taking — even if just for the photos and the breeze.

7. Spend a Day at Omu Resort

If you’re looking for fun, adventure, and a touch of nature all in one place, Omu Resort is the perfect spot. Located in Bogije, Ibeju-Lekki, just outside the city center, this resort is a family-friendly destination packed with exciting activities.

At Omu Resort, you can visit the zoo, ride go-karts, play mini-golf, go horse riding, or even take a boat ride. There’s also a wax museum, an amusement park, and a water park with slides and splash zones. It’s a great way to enjoy a full day of fun with friends or familiy — and there’s something for every age group.

Whether you’re here for a weekend or a longer stay, these 7 exciting activities will help you enjoy the best of Lagos — culture, fun, relaxation, and unforgettable memories.

So pack your energy, curiosity, and camera — and get ready to explore the heartbeat of Nigeria like never before!
